The Louisiana Church of God Ministry and Retreat Center held its 2024 Camp Meeting at the Palmetto Campground on July 11-14. The theme was “Building On The Foundation”. John 4:38 reminded us to recognize those who have labored among us – “I sent you to reap that for which you have not labored; others have labored, and you have entered into their labors.”

Realizing that we are living in a very pivotal time in the life of not only the church, but of the world, this Camp Meeting sought to anchor the church in its Scriptural foundation. The preachers for Camp Meeting were given this assignment and their differing voices helped to anchor the church on this foundation. These preachers included Rev. Steve Nelson, Sis. Joy Riggins, Rev. Sarah Morgan, Rev. Shante Perry, Rev. Duane E. Fontenot and Rev. Deron Brown. 

The conferences were riveting and thought provoking as our conference panels explored discipleship strategies, with its challenges and innovations and the life and times of today’s church in this digital world. In addition, the children and youth gathered in conference times and special activities with the goal of setting a solid foundation for their lives moving forward.  

This year’s Camp Meeting also began a process of recognizing several of the trailblazers who have served the Palmetto Campgrounds and churches throughout the state. These individuals were celebrated for faithfully laboring in the church through the years. They included – Rev. Steve Nelson, Revs. Thomas and Mable Riggins, Rev. Rosella Williams, Gene & Casandra Rosby, Dr. Robert L. Stringer, Felton Coleman, Clothilde Valair, Angelyn LaFrance, Dr. Robert Williams, Mattie Cockerham, Lubertha Harris, Henry Matthews, Henry & Inez Cotton, and Rev. Joe Lewis. 

With the recognition of these servant-leaders, we are challenged to look toward a future with a confidence in the foundation that has been laid. MRC Camp Meeting 2025 will usher in the 60thAnniversary of the Palmetto Campgrounds and Camp Meeting. The dates on the calendar are July 10-13, 2025.
